This is John Bachelor, from a longer conversation with my colleague Andrew McCarthy of the National

Review Online. We look at the testimony by the director of the FBI Christopher Ray,

but the jihadist threat during the Gaza war during the Ukraine war right now.

And the director is alarmed at the scale that he's facing now,

and he speaks well of what has improved in the last 30 years since first the US was attacked

in the late 20th century by Al-Qaeda. And then again he worries about what we don't know

about the adversary. This is Al-Qaeda, ISIS, Palestinian Islamic jihad.

There are so many groups, there's so many possible threats. And we're also looking at the

question of where the targets are, hard-target, soft targets. Here's Andy to explain the good news,

but then the bad news. Our borders are open. We don't know who's here. We don't know how long

the Gaza war will continue. We don't know how bad the turmoil will get in the United States,

in Europe, in the air. Here's Andy. This is a great question, John. And so I think there's good

news and bad news, because I don't want to be completely dull or and ignore the fact that there

is good news. When I got involved as a prosecutor in terrorism cases in the 1990s, after the

World Trade Center was bombed in 1993, there were appalling blocks between agencies in terms of

intelligence sharing and information sharing. I think that in the post 9-11 decades,

the information sharing between the intelligence community of which the FBI is a component

and the law enforcement side of the FBI, as well as ground up, because the biggest force

multipliers in national security are local and municipal police agencies and the public that

gives them information. So from the ground up to the FBI and from the FBI building out to the

intelligence community, our information sharing is night and day better than it was 30 years ago.

So that's the good news. The bad news, I think, is that the number of actors has gotten
