This is John Batcher, conversation with my good colleague Anatole of the Quincy Institute for

Responsible Statecraft about trends in the European Union Parliament vote of these last days,

720 seats, and 400 continue with the center, that is the

center right, the center left, the socialists, a combination.

Ms. Vandelline elected by that combination,

once it was overwhelmingly more than half.

Now it's little over half.

And the rise where the votes went, not to the Greens, but to a combination

of different versions of nationalism in Germany and France and Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, the Nordic states.

In other words, it doesn't have one name,

but it's understood as a challenge from the far right, the radical right, the true right, many

combinations in Europe and many languages.

Here's Anatole Leibin to voice his surprise and that after I ask him, well the center held,

vendor line still commands 400 votes, his response was for now.
