Conversation with my colleague Joseph Sternberg, he's a member of the

Wall Street Journalist in London, observing the run-up to the European Union

elections over these next several days, and how it is that the theme of the right of center parties

called far right parties are doing better in the polling and anticipate success

in the European Union election.

The reason Joe gives is very straightforward.

They've listened to what was unacceptable,

and they've moderated.

Lessons learn, moderated parties win elections.

They certainly do better than the heretofore.

important part of the story that's going on here because if you when you look at opinion polls in countries like

like France or Italy or even to a certain extent Spain you know some of these protest parties on the right

appear to be very popular, but that

is largely a function of the fact that the parties

had moderated themselves.

So Maureen Le Penn expelled her own father from the political party that he had founded amid

controversy over his anti-Semitic statements, and that was because she understood that this would be off-putting to the

you know centrist French voters that she would need to attract in order to win elections.
