Hello and welcome to another episode of Epox where I have finished my series all about the late Roman Republic

0:05.4

and I should be changing the topic entirely now.

0:08.3

I'll be going back to my series all about the British monarchy, English monarchy.

0:14.1

If you remember back in episode 147, I got up to the age of Edward II.

0:24.6

So I shall be carrying on from there talking about all about Edward the 3rd. It's easy to remember if you ever try and commit all the monarchs to memory.

0:28.6

You've got three Edwards in a row, Longshanks, Edward the second and then Edward the third.

0:33.6

So three Edwards in a row.

0:35.6

The grandfather is great, Edward the first, Edward

0:38.5

the second, not so great, pretty ignominious actually, and then Edward the third is great

0:43.6

again, great in inverted commas. He's got a shout for being perhaps one of the greatest

0:48.9

English monarchs of all time, but some people do pick him as the best English king of all time. There's a few up there.

0:57.6

1:14.6

And there's lots of martial achievements. He was a great sort of warrior king, but there are also some stains on his memory as well.

1:23.6

But he's certainly up there with one of the best, you know, with Edward

1:27.8

the first or Richard or Henry V, one of those guys. He's one of my favourites. I probably

1:35.3

wouldn't put him first, but he's definitely a great story because there's so many events

1:40.0

that go on. One thing I would say, if you've watched, if you've been watching my previous series

1:44.6

all about the late Republic and Caesar and Pompey, I went into that story in lots and lots

1:50.9

of detail. This one I'm going to zoom out a bit, try and do the whole of Edward III's life

1:58.5

in one episode here.
