long conversation I have with David Petrucia, the historian, author of 1920, the year of the six

presidents.

Wooder Wilson is ill at the White House cannot run again.

Daddy Roosevelt has died at home in January of 1919.

Both parties need choices for the future, recovering from the war. The Democrats will choose John Cox of Ohio, the

governor. He will choose Franklin Roosevelt as his vice president. On the Republican

side the choices are not clear and what follows is David Patricia giving

us Harding's best thinking at the convention why it is that he would put himself forward. Why his name is mentioned prominently among all

the others. This is the famous story, infamous story of the smoke filled room in Chicago. There wasn't just one room, there was a series of decision-making

through the many ballots of the Convention, and Warren Harding emerges.
