Reports in London, the Financial Times, that Deep Seek, the Chinese surprise,

is spreading everywhere in China, hospitals, schools, associations, not just Alibaba,

but everyone is taking up Deep seek in its large language model.

I asked Chris about this because it seems strange that a hospital would suddenly adopt something

that is still experimental for many instances, and only the large companies are seeking the high-end

large language models that can monetize them. And Chris's response is most helpful to understand,

and why it's a good thing to point to Deep Seek. Why Deep Seek did the U.S. a favor?

I would wager that you have fingerprints from Ministry of State Security all over, DeepSeek, as an economic shot at the U.S.

That being said, there's benefit in Deep Seek the same way there is benefit in Sputnik.

The U.S. rises to the occasion best when there's competition, when there's an adversary, when there's a goal.

DeepSeek was very successful in showing the risk of overspending on AI and not innovating aggressively enough. The Chinese are great

peer competitors for the ability to drive competition and drive the best, but U.S. innovation

and U.S. risk taking will win, but it's good to have an adversary there.
