This is John Batcher, conversation with Gregory Zuckerman for his book A Shot to Save the World.

This book from 2021 is a very careful analysis of the race by all the competing pharmaceutical companies

to come up with a vaccine or several vaccines that could go into service

right away given the vulnerability of the worldwide population to COVID-19 in 20, 21, 22, the vaccine

did go into service and in criticism afterwards it was that they didn't test enough

different kinds of groups such as the elderly certain companies didn't.

There wasn't a wasn't time to do it. The testing

revealed some difficulties, not all of them. And since then there's been a hot

debate about what are the side effects and should everybody have the vaccine

and there's vaccine resistance accordingly.

What I know is that four years later I did get the virus and I've had six shots mostly

moderna and whatever it could have been it's like a very bad cold or a flu as I've been told to think of it.

Well, um, listen, there's, there's, there's, there's all kinds of arguments you can make either way.

It's not clear in hindsight what they should have done.

But the whole point is, you've got a test in tens of thousands of people. There was a debate how many you

needed to really test but all these efforts realized over time you've got to
