This is John Bachelor, colleague Richard Epstein of the Hoover Institution,

commenting on the presidential contest between the Vice President Harris and former President Trump.

Richard is very clear that he doesn't appreciate either candidate,

especially on the policy of spending,

and that Mr. Trump, while he's marginally choice, is very untrustworthy,

especially his conduct in office.

Richard Epstein does not like either candidate, but there it is.

Well, you're absolutely right about that. I mean, he's right on taxes and he's explain more of this tonight. Well, you're absolutely right about that.

I mean, he's right on taxes and he's wrong on expenditures.

But again, the problem is she's wrong on taxes and she's also wrong on this issue.

So, I mean, this is a campaign that should never be.

I mean, if you were to ask me what kind of candidate I would want to have there,

it would be somebody who was more in the traditional Republican model who believed in balanced

budgets to some extent and also believed in free trade and generally defended open markets

and a free press, which the Democrats don't do. If this were a campaign with Nikki Haley or with Ron DeSantis,

given who she is, they'd be ahead by 15 points. So you're pointing out is the fact that

Trump's worst enemy is Trump. And that is absolutely correct. So the issue that's going to depend

in this country is whether or not his general perception will move up so that people will be less

fearful of his vengeful and petty side and more hopeful for his optimistic.
