This is John Batchelor, conversation with colleague Judy Dempsey of the Carnegie Endowment about the surprise or not surprise election result in Poland.

At the same time, Donald Tusk, the understood liberal prime minister, continues,

now fearing a confidence vote crisis in the Parliament, perhaps early

elections. Judy, however, reflects upon Tusk as a leader, having been blessed by the public

because he was going to make changes, and not yet. Here's duty to explain.

I do think they're being enormous.

I think they're spelling out the reality that Tusk is weakened.

Tusk was never a strong leader in Poland.

And when he was head of the European Union president, that's who looks after the 27 member states compared to the commission, he was okay.

But he's, he, he lost, he, he, he doesn't,

he didn't have the courage of his convictions. He won the last election on promising a liberal agenda, on promising economic reform, on promising more housing, on promising to, uh to roll back the very tight abortion laws.
