This is John Batchelor. It is called the Pennsylvania College of Technology. It's in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, part of the Penn State system.

Jim McTag, my colleague in Lancaster County, attended a jobs fair most recently in Lancaster and was told about a jobs fair held in March for a class that's graduating later in a few weeks in

June, a class of 885, overwhelmingly employed. Jim gives us stats before they graduate.

What do they teach you? Welding, for example, or electrical engineering or business accounting?

Jim makes the case that there are lots of really good jobs in manufacturing,

looking for young people to replace we-aged-out boomers.

You know, I had never heard of this college before.

It's part of the Penn State system.

They had a job fair in March, and they had 300 industrial companies show up.

97% of the graduates are hired before they graduate.

So there's a class of about 880 graduating in a week or two, and so about 860 almost

already have jobs, and these are jobs, you know, 60, 70, 80, 90,000 range.

That's pretty good for a young kid.

The college, by the way, it offers associates degrees and B.A. degrees.

So you can either, you know, become a welder and leave after two years,

or you can stay on and get another degree in accounting or or business

administration and then that really increases your worth in this new economy because consider
