This is John Batchel speaking to colleague Eric Berger of Ars Technica, the chief space correspondent editor,

about test number nine for Starship and Super Heavy at Bocahika, the success and the failures,

especially the failure because they didn't learn even what went wrong and never got that far.

Here, Eric explains much more of this tonight.

You know, the most recent flight test, I think, was part success and part failure.

The success came with the, you know, the relaunch of a first stage for the first time.

So they reflu part of the big part of the rocket.

And that was a significant success.

I think the downside is that the upper stage, you know, had to be destroyed again before it

completed its mission. And really, the big thing they wanted to test with the upper stage this time

was the tiles that Elon Musk told me before the flight

test that they had more than a dozen different experiments on board the vehicle to test the

ability of the tiles to withstand the heating from the atmospheric entry returned to Earth, and it didn't

get that far. I think that part of the test was a real big disappointment for SpaceX.
