Right now, the Liberal Party, in power for many years, is choosing a new leader. Mr. Trudeau steps aside.

The leading candidate is said to be Mark Carney. Who is he? What are his themes? Conrad helps me understand. The paper says he's a

former Bank of England and former Bank of Canada governor. What has that got to do with governing Canada,

No, no, he's certainly not.

He's a very militant environmentalist.

He's a sort of no compromise net zero advocate and tries to sell what is a huge opportunity for Canada.

And he has a really, I don't want to overstate it, but an almost messianic view of his role to bring Canada to the forefront as the world's leading advanced economy,

moving away from fossil fuel use.

And, you know, in fact, our greatest industry is oil and gas, and I think it is a completely insane policy,

and so to a lot of other people but

that would be the first thing i'd mention about them and beyond that

despite being a central banker he would be

somewhat to the left of christie freeland he he uh...

uh... he has a sort of collectivist view of things i don't mean that he's a

communist he certainly is not that but but he he does believe in He has a sort of collectivist view of things. I don't mean that he's a communist.

He certainly is not that.

But he does believe in a lot of government regulation, as central bankers often do.

And he does believe that the safety net has to make sure there are no holes in it at all.
