This is John Batchster, conversation with colleague Charles Burton in Ottawa. He's traveling about the

choices offered to the Canadian people for the election now called for April 28th. Mark Carney,

a central banker, never served in politics before. Now the Prime Minister of Canada,

inheriting that mantle from Justin Trudeau who stepped aside

from the leader of the Liberal Party, meaning he was head of government. Mr. Carney is now head

of government without a vote. The vote comes April 28th. What are Carney's policies? Green until now,

as Charles characterizes it. Mr. Carney's eager to walk back

his green statements in the past. Mr. Poliapr consistently not green about using the riches

of natural resources in Canada to benefit the people of Canada and the indigenous people

of the North.

Mr. Carney, for green, not so much anymore, and energy, natural resources selling to the world.

And I think Mr. Carney has also been active in the UN with regard to environmental concerns.

So this is really the big issue.

So many of the indigenous peoples living in the north would very much like to see the infrastructure and employment opportunities of exploiting northern resources.

And they are being stymied by, you know, extreme environmentalists, some of whom are funded by agencies in the United States,

actually.

You know, we would like to develop the North and get the critical minerals and develop the

infrastructure for export of energy products because there's enormous demand for this,

and it would diversify the dependence on Russia for oil in
