This is John Batchel, a conversation with my good friend and colleague Gregory Copley, Defense and Foreign Affairs, about King Charles. The King Charles report. The Canadian flag, 60 years old and the king honored it. Moving from once upon a time, a blue field, Gregory tells me, with the Union Jack in it in a corner to what we have today,

the gorgeous maple leaf. Gregory Copley on King Charles and Canada. He is King of Canada,

and he'll visit soon enough. More of this tonight. He also took the opportunity in the past week, literally a day or two after

Megan Markle, the, if you like, disgraced Duchess of Sussex, left the Invictus

Games in Canada and went back to the United States.

There was a great controversy over that, but in the meantime, the King comes out with this message

to the Canadian people, which was seen as very warm, joining them and congratulations on the

60th anniversary of the new Canadian flag.

In the old days, for over 100 years, Canada's flag was a blue ensign with a union jack in the corner

and a Canadian coat of arms in the shield in the in the in the blue field.

Now it of course is the red white and red vertical stripes with the maple leaf the red

maple leaf in the center and that's become very emblematic of of Canada and it's been

embraced by the Canadians.

So the king was welcoming that and celebrating that.
