This is John Batchel, conversation with Jeff Bliss, his Pacific Watch, about In and Out,

a much-storied chain of franchises, hamburgers, etc., in California.

And the sole owner has decided raising children and living in California is no longer worth

the stress and the struggle.

So she's moving to Tennessee, gone to Tennessee, along with some of the operations.

And the governor objects, why?

Gone to Tennessee.

In and Out is your quintessential fast food drive-through hamburger place. It started back in

the 50s here in California, became a real institution, spread throughout the west, and it's been

spreading now eastward towards folks out on the East Coast. They have a very simple menu, great

food, all their food is fresh, and all the people who work there, you know, it's the old-fashioned customer service. Well, it's been getting tough for them to do business in their own home state of California, where they've been all these years. And so the sole heir to the company, the head of the company, Lindsay Snyder, said, you know what, I've got a family. I can't keep raising my family here in California.

It feels too lawless. The schools feel, you know, like they're going downhill and on and on.

And it's tough to do business. So I'm going to relocate part of the operations to Tennessee,

where it's much more business-friendly. And these people seem to be in sync with our values.

And so they're going to take a great deal of the

operations and move them to Tennessee. In the meantime, when she made that announcement on a podcast,

it rose, you know, it pulled up the ire of a lot of people in California, like the governor

and various legislators who said, how dare you? We've been supporting you all these years.

And so she had to come back
