Her book, A Rome of One's Own, is the story of the women of Rome,

from the kingdom to the republic, to the empire, to the Christian antiquity,

after Rome was abandoned by the empire moving to Constantinople.

These are women who were mentioned in the literature, in the legends, but not much written about.

As Emma says very clearly, you could do a story on Roman dogs and have a longer book than on Roman women.

But she has put together the clues and the remarks and the period of the women of Rome.

And in this instance, she talks of Julia, the only child has survived of Augustus,

and how Augustus controlled her and married her to Marcellus, a cousin,

married her to Agrippa, his best friend, married her Tiberius, his wife's son. In this instance,

he marries her to Agrippa, who you will recall Agrippa was the Admiral of the Fleet

that defeated Cleopatra and Marcus Antony once upon a time before Augustus, when he was Octavian,

rose to total control.

A control freak is what we call him in the 21st century.

He marries her to Agrippa, and surprisingly, it works for as long as Agrippa lives.

Julia, daughter of Augustus, the empire itself is one man, Augustus.

This is when Julia married Agrippa.

So he then marries... Agrippa first, right.

Yeah. So Agrippa is his best friend, his right-hand man.

They went to school together. They're the same age.

And he makes Agrippa his, by marrying Julia to him.
