about Javier Malay and Argentina pushing back against the Chinese

opportunities and Chinese money and Chinese conduct in Argentina

prior to his taking office,

reaching back to the Kirchz period, the Fernandez period, the Macri

period, and how many leaders in Latin America, not just Argentina, are reluctant to push

against the Chinese because of their overwhelming presence.

However, Aviar Malay is not, and here the professor explains why that might be true and how it might be true looking going forward.

There have been various degrees of efforts.

Again, previously in Argentina, when center-right government of Mauricio Macri came in,

they actually questioned a lot of the Chinese. Center right government of Mauricio Macri came in.

They actually questioned a lot of the Chinese deals,

including the space station and including the really

pork barrel projects to build dams in Christina Fernandez's backyard in Santa Cruz province.

But at the end of the day, the way that the Chinese had structured these deals contractually.

For example, with Mary Schia Maccary, he quickly discovered that if he took away the Santa Cruz River dams,

you would also put at risk another Chinese funded project, the Belgrano-Cargis railroad

modernization, which essentially would have gravely prejudiced the business

interest of his father now deceased Francisco Mockery.

And so in the end, he did certain things against the Chinese, but not others.
