Four years ago today, R.C. Sprole passed into glory.

A beloved pastor, theologian, Bible commentator, and apologist, Sprole impacted millions

of Christians around the world through his sermons, his lectures, his articles, and his books.

As Johnny Erickson Tata has said,

R.C. was a masterful theologian,

who could so easily squeeze sweetness from what others considered dry doctrine.

His sermons and books beautifully adorned the gospel, but so did his life.

In honor of R.C.'s' legacy, today we're pleased to share the final chapter from Stephen Nichols' biography of Sprole, released earlier this year called R.C. Sprole, A Life.

In this chapter, Nichols recounts Sproles' final months, reflects on his enduring legacy for American Christianity,

and shares little-known anecdotes from his life,

like the time he was quoted in a movie about vampires or went golfing with Alice Cooper.

Chapter 11, Doxology

Theology leads to God, Thomas Aquinas.

The final events of R.C.'s life seem as if they were scripted.

His final Ligonier conference was on Luther and the Reformation.

His final question and answer session ended with an answer that included Luther,

the gospel, Isaiah chapter 6, God's holiness, and the words, Here I Stand.

His final two sermons expound the glory of Christ and the greatness of salvation.

His final sentence of his final sermon calls for awakening. His final breath drawn as the Highland hymn concluded

on the CD player in the hospital room. Pure poetry. That uncanny finality extended to the day

after he died and the episode broadcast on Renewing Your Mind on December 15th, 2017.
