Hi everybody. Today, my mommy is going to talk about Jimmy Carter. Thank you, Noah, for introducing

Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States. Jimmy Earl Carter Jr. was born in Georgia in

24 and would become the only Georgian elected to the presidency.

He was a very good student becoming valedictorian of his high school class and finishing in the top

10% at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.

A month after graduating, he married Rosalind Smith and the two moved to Norfolk, Virginia,

where Jimmy Carter would start serving with the U.S. Navy.

Jimmy's father passed away in 1953, and after his passing, Jimmy made a decision that shocked his Navy's

superiors and even his wife.

He returned home to take over the family business of peanut farming.

Ten years after leaving the Navy to run the peanut farm, Carter ran for a Senate seat in Georgia

and lost a close election. He was able to prove that his

opponent had committed voter fraud, which disqualified his opponent and resulted in Carter winning

a Senate seat. After four years as Senator, Jimmy Carter ran for the Office of Governor of Georgia and lost.

In his second attempt in 1970, he was able to win and serve a successful four years as governor of Georgia.

As governor, he called for an end to racial segregation, which was an opinion that many in Georgia did not share at the time.

He put his support for civil rights at the forefront of his policy as governor.

After four years as governor, Jimmy Carter decided to run for president, despite not being well known outside of the

state of Georgia. He was able to defeat Gerald Ford in the election of 1976, as Ford was never

able to shake the controversy he caused when he pardoned Richard Nixon during the Watergate investigation.

President Carter embraced his role as a president for the people, following the administrations of

Nixon and Ford that left the American people feeling betrayed. He demonstrated his desire to represent the people when on his
