Night, Primetime Address, announcing plans to increase the American True Presence in Afghanistan.

I'm Scott Detro, I cover Congress.

I'm Tamer Keith, I cover the White House.

And I'm Phil Ewing at PR's National Security Editor.

Alright, so we're recording this at about 10 o'clock on Monday night.

The President spoke about a half hour ago saying that frankly, Americans are weary of the

war in Afghanistan.

My original instinct was to pull out and historically, I like following my instincts.

But all my life, I've heard that decisions are much different when you sit behind the

desk in the Oval Office.

But Trump said the U.S. still has key interest in Afghanistan and he's going to increase

the True Presence there and try to turn things around.

But Trump said he's increasing that military commitment with an America first spin.

We are a partner and a friend, but we will not dictate to the Afghan people how to live

or how to govern their own complex society.
