It's not every day that you find a secret forest.

I would suspect that most of you have never found one, but Ramona did.

She had spent the morning watching insects in her garden.

Pill bugs under stones, butterflies darting around above her head and bees visiting the

various flowers.

There was one bush with dark green leaves and fat pink blooms that had really taken

her interest, not least because she'd spied a large caterpillar, making it steady

way from leaf to leaf.

Ramona found it fascinating, and wondered if she should try to pick it up, but as she

thought about it, the caterpillar disappeared beneath a leaf and out of sight.

Ramona lifted the leaf, but the caterpillar wasn't there.

Oddly, it was much further along the stem, where it slipped from view as it moved behind

the stem's far side.

Ramona now had to lean into the bush a little in order to see it, but once again, the

caterpillar wasn't where she expected it to be.

It was now deeper in the bush on a branch.

Ramona wriggled herself between the outer leaves and proceeded to chase the caterpillar,

deeper and deeper within.

That's strange, she thought, after clambering over several thick branches as wide as her

body.

I don't remember this bush being this big.

By now, she had lost sight of the caterpillar completely, but she could see daylight ahead
