God doesn't dwell in the world the way a soul is said to dwell in a body, Paul is saying, in Act 17.

He transcends the world.

He created a world he didn't need out of love and for his own glory,

but precisely because he transcends time and space he is present in every time and place.

How do we know that?

Because God became one of us.

Too much of a nearby God for comfort.

So we put him on a cross.

But the philosophers had absolutely no idea that in fact that act of shame and apparent defeat

was the event through which God was reconciling the world to himself and his son.

And on the third day, he rose again as the beginning of the resurrection of the debt.

There is a real judgment coming, and we know that know that too because of Christ's resurrection.

But for you who have placed your trust in Christ the verdict has already been announced

to the whole world and to you. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

What would it have been that made this ragtag group of Jewish Christians so abominable to their families and to the Roman emperors.

What aroused the attention of the persecutors.

This message, this message that we keep finding all the way through the Book of Acts, the proclamation

of Jesus Christ.
