Well, hello, my friends. Welcome to the Kyle Serfin Show for Thursday. It is May the 22nd.

Appreciate you being along for the ride here. We're going to be talking about something called pre-crime.

Pre-crime is when you go out there and you figure out that there's going to be a crime before it happens.

And then you stop it. And that happens basically never. That's actually not something you can do.

Pre-crime is made up.

Pre-crime is actually a thought experiment and a warning to people who think they can get ahead of the power of God.

It's an argument that there is predetermination in the world, that we actually do not have free will.

And it was explored, I would say, accurately and interestingly, by Philip K. Dick in

1956.

And they made a 2002 Tom Cruise movie about it to remind you, 50 years after that, you really

cannot tell people what they're going to do until they do it.

There's another great lesson in the sci-fi book, Ender's Game, which is a story about leadership,

and it's a story about the possibility of humanity uniting behind a common threat,

the common threat being coming in from the outside world and part of God's creation that we cannot communicate with in any kind of verbal way. So we have to assume they're a threat. It might be kind of interesting as we consider the things that are going on in South Africa right now. And one of the things that Ender, who's the hearing of that story, points out, is that human beings are utterly predictable. You can tell what they're going to do,

and you can learn all the lessons about man and how man will respond to any given situation,

and that man will act in his own best interest and self-preservation, and you can set your

battle plans accordingly, right up until the point when someone does something selfless

and completely illogical and outside of any predictability.
