With Gordon Chang, my colleague and friend, and we're discussing the National People's Congress

of the Chinese Communist Party and the People's Republic of China. What is the NPC?

The financial time, which is very, very cautious about China, always refers to it as the rubber

stamp National People's Congress. It is many, many people coming from all over China,

some wearing colorful costumes to demonstrate the breadth of the Chinese civilization. And there's a large military contingent.

Rubber stamp is again repeated always whenever it comes to the results of the National People's

Congress. So I go to you, Gordon, how to read the NPC statements, how to read the headlines coming out of China after the NPC.

What purpose does it serve? What did we learn so far from the ongoing and about to be ended

NPC of 2025? Good evening. Good evening. The National People's Congress, which is one of the

two sessions of the two sessions meeting, is China's national legislature. It's the highest organ of state power. And in China, the Communist Party dominates the state. So the NPC is often described as the rubber stamp. And most years, that's true, as is this year.
