This is CBSI on the World. I'm John Batcher with my colleague and friend Gordon Chang at Gordon G. Chang.

And we're very pleased to welcome the author and commentator and our colleague, Brendan Wykert,

his new book is Biohacked, China's Race to Control Live. This is the biology of the world, the biosciences. However,

it is a strange coincidence that we're now dealing with another doubt of the people's Republic of China and its conduct in the world of affairs.

Brendan, a very good evening to you in our conversation about your excellent book Biohacked.

There was a general theme that the people's Republic of China as a motive is an imperial power stealing from everywhere on the planet.

As if it is their right to steal. I read this story about malware and it strikes me it's the same motive.

It's their right to corrupt, to damage and to steal or to deprive the other nations of the earth of their property.

Your comment on the malware, how widespread do you believe it is? And at this point, is this the same thing that's going on in biosciences?

Are they planning malware and biosciences as well? Good evening to you.

Well, good evening, John. And hello, Gordon. Thank you for having me as always.

Your question, the answer is absolutely this is part of a larger pattern.

I think that the infection of our critical infrastructure is systemic. I think that this is why the military is basically going on this gigantic malware hunt.

Certainly, the Chinese are doing similar things in biotechnology. The term biohacking is a play on the word hacking.

So basically doing the same thing that hackers do to computers, the Chinese want to use CRISPR Cass 9, the gene editing tool that we created to do that to the human genome and to do that to the basic building blocks of life.

So yes, they want to hack human biology as well. But specifically related to this malware story, not only are they attempting to steal intellectual property and steal our thunder if you will in cyber.

The Chinese, I think this is part of a larger strategic move by China to try to place electronic time bombs for lack of a better term as part of a run up to what I think is a coming attack on Taiwan.

I think that's coming a lot sooner than people are thinking it will in the Pentagon. And I think that this is probably akin to a possible cyber Pearl Harbor.
