to have launched successfully. I think a DF-41 was the indication. It's an ICPM. They used a mobile launcher is the report. They

launched from Hainan not from its not from a space-based or the regular

rocket range. Itflew East Asia. It did not cross Japanese airspace.

But this combined with the Harrising of Filipino Coast Guard along in the South China Sea and the overflight of Japanese

airspace two weeks ago suggests that the Chinese are trying to get our attention.

They're getting our attention in a couple of ways.

One is, of course, increased tension between them and the Philippines over these particular islands

or shoals that they are competing with.

We see a greater presence by Chinese Coast Guard vessels, almost in overwhelming numbers

to the vessels that Philippines condition out there.

We see some increased naval operations

around some of the smaller islands,

which are part of Taiwan in an effort

probably to intimidate the Taiwanese.
