At Gordon G. Chang, my colleague, and co-host, and we welcome Rick Fisher of the International

Assessment and Strategy Center to comment on the news that China's growing its military

draft to wartime proportions. We're a very good evening to you. Growing a draft, that's

something we've watched a story develop out of Moscow for some time.

Is there an easy explanation for why they're drafting more of their young people now?

Good evening to you. Good evening, John. Good evening, Gordon. Indeed, John, yes.

The drafting of or making preparations to draft the 35 million population of Chinese university

students is a very adroit move by the Chinese Communist Party leadership. People's liberation

army requires smart people to operate its new increasingly sophisticated weapons. They

need kids who grew up in the video computer age to operate even small, shoulder-launched

anti-tank missiles that have digital sites. These digital sites require the kind of familiarity

with digital technology that comes natural to this age cohort. China already maintains a

population of about 8 million in its militia. On top of about 2 million in the People's

Liberation Army and about half a million in the People's Army police. But making the announcement

that you're going to start drafting the 35 million student university student population signals

to me, John, that China is looking beyond Taiwan, that it is looking at its subsequent wars,

the wars to take over the Riku Islands, take over the South China Sea, to take over a Runaqal

Pradesh. These are wars that the Chinese Communist Party needs to win in order to be the Hejimon

by the 2040s. This should very much concern the American draft age population, largely in American

universities. This means that China is ready for decades of war, that you may not like war,
