about a report I'm finding in London, BBC. Canada said it is detected a misinformation

campaign targeting a member of its parliament on the Chinese instant messaging app WeChat.

Conservative politician Michael Chang was allegedly the target of post-sharing quote misleading

narratives about his background, his family's heritage and his political views. Charles,

it's a very good day to you. I believe you are in the members' writings Wellington

Halton Hills. Yes, I'm right here with Mr. Chang. I don't know if he's down the street or not,

but he might be. This campaign is the first we've seen something like this or is this routine

for the PRC? Good evening to you. Good evening. Well, I mean, I think certainly, you know,

the use of WeChat or the Chinese social media very locally targeted is something which

is happening more and more. I mean, if you look at the size of the United Front Work Department

of the Chinese Communist Party, which is responsible for engagement with people outside China

to get them to to support Chinese Communist purposes. And in particular, persons of Chinese

heritage who can read Chinese, there is a pervasive use of this information to, in this case,

discredit respected Canadian parliamentarian who has been active in challenging

Chinese malign activities in Canada. So Michael Chang is a person of mixed heritage. His

father moved to Canada from Hong Kong. His mother is from the Netherlands. And so he speaks with

particular credibility in his criticisms of China, the demands for a foreign agent's registry

act, which the government has been resistant to apply. And in particular, demands for public inquiry

into Chinese government interference in Canadian elections through disinformation and illegally
