and we're very pleased to welcome our colleague, James Fennell. Jim Fennell is a former U.S. Navy

captain, now retired, intelligence officer, helping us understand the vastness of the Indo-Pacific, Oceania.

And that same challenge is on the new administration, hence remarks by the new Secretary of Defense about the Indo-Pacific.

The Secretary said that the futures of the U.S. and its Indo-Pacific allies are, quote,

bound together. He went on to say, we share, speaking to the Indo-Pacific, your vision of peace and stability,

of prosperity and security, and we are here to stay. The future vision for the Indo-Pacific reads

the copy, grounded in common sense and

national interests. And then this, the resources, that's money and personnel, devoted now in the new

administration to the end of Pacific, quote, enables all of us to benefit from the peace and stability that comes with a lasting

and strong American presence here in the Indo-Pacific.

Jim, that's enough.

A lasting and strong American presence in the Indo-Pacific,

the implication is that it does not exist now.

Good evening, John and Gordon. Yeah, I think this speech by Secretary of Defense Hegset is really,

I put it on par with the speech that Secretary of State Pompeo gave at the Nixon Library in 2020

in terms of, I think, is going to be remembered as one of these historic

pivot speeches by an American administration.

There are some issues that we'll get to.

I know in terms of what we are actually doing with what we say, but in terms of what was said,
