G. Chang my colleague and co-host, Reuters, Dateline within these last hours, new Cuban radar site near US

military base could aid China spying according to a think tank in Washington.

We're looking at a distinguished think tank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

That's very high government, either in government or out of government.

We welcome someone to help us interpret why now, why Cuba.

Rebecca Grant, Vice President of the Lexington Institute.

Rebecca, we both can review the Cuban missile crisis of 1963. We can look at the Bay of

pigs of 1962. We can look at Castro in 1959 in Harlem. And Cuba has remained a quandary for the US government. Does it also

present a puzzle to the US government what is to be done given this report of a

radar site near a US military base.

And Cuba remains a problem because it is so close to Florida and John Florida is a treasure trove of US military

secrets and capabilities you may not think of it that way, but let me

rattle off just a few. You've got the Egland Weapons Test Range, of course

the Cape Canaveral Space Launch Facilities. There's a submarine base there, several Air Force and other military bases,

and more aerospace manufacturing than you would think all the major companies have manufacturing components there

part of the B21 bomber is made there. Florida is a treasure trove and this

radar site that China is building has the ability to look pretty deep into the United States

and also to help Chinese military forces or Russian forces if they wanted to operate in those

waters in that airspace.
