The Chinese government's announced action against micron is not based in fact and is a troubling

use of economic coercion against the U.S. I welcome from the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy,

Emily Delabriaire, who is also co-founder of Horizon Advisory. Emily, it's a puzzle to me.

Micron is part of the chips market that has transformed the earth, but it's not a major part.

It does very good work and the state of Idaho depends upon its prosperity.

So why micron and why now? How does this help China? Good evening and thank you for having me.

A couple points that I think help to explain China's move and also the implications of it.

First of all, Beijing's move against micron underscores that China is going to escalate

in the U.S.-China industrial and technological competition. Beijing is not going to try to let

recent U.S. actions to compete with China for chips and for other industrial capacity.

Beijing is not going to let these blow over. Rather, Beijing is going to try to escalate now and

assert its dominance now. Lightly in the hope that this makes the U.S. back down.

Second be, China is going to do this by putting pressure on U.S. companies and on the ecosystems

that depend on those U.S. companies. Micron is a crown jewel in the U.S.-Mine connector ecosystem.

However, even the most advanced and most competent U.S. companies depend on China for their inputs
