Professor Richard Epstein of the Hoover Institution a senior fellow writing most recently at Defining Ideas,

also teaches law at NYU and the University of Chicago.

A very good evening to you, Richard.

We're looking at comments following the debate between Vice President of the

United States and the former President.

I note that Carl Rove's column, which I read carefully in the Wall Street Journal, makes no hesitation.

It was a catastrophe for the former president.

Your opinion, Richard.

Good evening to you. Well, catastrophe is a bit strong.

Maybe it's just a disaster.

But it looked like the man he wasn't.

This is somebody who now kind of looks like a half-by that he's too old to be in his prime.

She comes out very forceful. She had her lines prepared. She was very well coached.

She put on her prosecutorial garb and so forth, and she just came at him, and it was an extreme barrage, and he was frankly flummoxed.

He wasn't helped by the moderators, but I think all the blame really belongs on him.

And I would say that if you actually try to figure out what the policies were, her statements

were complete and utter and total disaster, but if you're looking at this as though it was just simply a debate as to who had the upper hand, she basically knocked them out in five rounds.

The question of the president, former president, Mr. Trump, Karl Rove goes on to say what he could have said,

what is necessary, what's important to achieve.

The question now is, did he not do those things

because he was ill-prepared?
