Good morning and thanks for joining me for Rise in Crime. Your morning caffeine hit,

All About Crime. I'm Mama Jules, and it's a three-story day. First, we've got a wrongful conviction with a massive settlement, all of it rooted in corruption. Then an affluent mom is sentenced for her role

in child endangerment involving alcohol and sexual activity. And then finally, a one-handed

woman releases her traffic, stop body cam footage, and it goes viral. Let's get after it.

Our first story today involves the murder of two men, along with drug use, and a little bit of mischief and misled youth. But ultimately, in 2026, the case is about

corruption and coercion. And now a federal trial, 36 years later after the double homicide, has led to millions of

dollars for one of the wrongfully accused. And equally important, the city of New Haven, Connecticut,

can hopefully believe the corruption has been rooted out. Now, to understand what happened, we have to go

back to October 11th of 1990. That night,

gunfire erupted inside an apartment in New Haven. When police arrived, they found one man shot in

bed and another man shot in what appeared to be an attempt at confronting the gunman or gunmen.

Both were dead. These were just two men kind of romantically

linked with no backgrounds or connections within the city. One of these men was 43-year-old Ricardo

Turner, an elected alderman in New Haven during the early 1980s. And just for those who don't know, an alderman in

New Haven is like a city councilman in other cities. Now, Ricardo had left the political scene,

most likely with many connections and networks, because that is how politics works, and he had
