My name is Podrigo Tumor and years ago I was in Australia and somebody came up to me

at a retreat I was giving and asked me how I was and I don't know why but I decided to

tell her the truth.

I was feeling really torn because I loved being in Australia and missed Ireland but when

I was in Ireland I missed Australia so I said to her I feel really torn and she looked

at me and she said being torn isn't such a bad way to be.

I thought about her for the last 15 years.

She offered a certain kind of poetry to me because she took something I'd said and

examined it in a new light.

She opened up something inside there that wasn't in my frame of imagination and she showed

me like poetry does what's possible in her life.

It can collapse so many different things that happened in your life across different

periods of your life.

It can collapse the past, the present and the future even into one poem and in this way

you're facing the pain of yourself in the past and hopefully the increasing healing

of yourself now and the person you want to be and the person you will become and all

of those are in some kind of conversation with each other.

It doesn't make it easy but it does make it powerful.
