Let's get right into it and start in China

They had a big mine collapse coal mine did you guys see the videos on social media friggin Arley dude so far the death toll

I checked it right before the podcast it's up to six but there's a lot more missing I think they're still looking for about 47 people

And the footage that was you see online was actually released by the Chinese state broadcasters CCTV

And so when you look at it you see the stream of workers it's from a distance and they're kind of walking through the scenario basin

And this landslide occurs and it covers the whole area with rock and sand and then you can't see any more miners at all

So they're like frantically gone that one of these is a race against time obviously and then one of the leaders of the rescue effort told local media

There was actually a second landslide while emergency personnel were on the scene

And they did have a couple people rescued about six and one of them was a dude who was energy by his from his hospital blood

And he said he had noticed gravel falling from the mountain as he began the day's work and they actually saw it worsening according to him

And he says that they actually were organizing an evacuation but then it was too late and the whole mountain caved in

You can imagine the safety record and coal mining in China isn't great

Hundreds of people die in coal mining accidents in China every year and it used to be a lot worse

How about this number last year China's coal mining accident deaths were 240

It sounds like a lot but that's down from over 2,600 in 2009

Now according to the government most of those deaths were attributed to failure to follow safety protocols including ventilation requirements
