| 1:30.0 | 1 of you for your service, 1 to 2% of the population of this country that signs a dotted line and takes you away from home and your loved ones and everything else and sacrifice a great deal. And I just want to say thank you for all that you've done for our country means a lot to me personally. So there you go. Let's go ahead and get into it and start in Egypt. This was just coming out this morning. A bus fell into a canal. |
| 2:00.0 | In Egypt's Nile River Delta region on Saturday, killing at least 21 people. And that's according to the country's health minister. Among the 21 people, sadly were three children. This happened in the Dakalia province. It's about 62 miles northeast of the capital of Cairo. They do have other passengers that survived so far that were transported to a local hospital. |
| 2:30.0 | Like I said, just coming out this morning with the head of police investigations in the province said the driver just must have lost control of the vehicle's steering wheel. And of course, deadly accidents do claim thousands of lives every year in Egypt, which has a poor transportation safety record. I've covered a few of them. For example, last July, a passenger bus slammed into a parked trailer truck on a highway. That killed 23 people. |
| 2:59.0 | Then just in October, a truck slammed into a mini bus in the same part of the country, Dakalia, and that killed at least 10 people. So pretty bad stuff. Be careful when you're driving around these countries, man. Like if you guys go on vacation, I've covered a lot of them, you know, in Asia, other parts of the world, Africa and just some of these devastating accidents. So you really got to keep your head on a swivel. Let's move on to Belgium. |
| 3:27.0 | This is coming out. Did you guys hear about the police officer who is killed in a knife attack in Brussels? Yeah, you probably didn't hear anything about it, which is why you listen to the podcast. Well, the Belgian authorities said yesterday, Friday that the suspect, guess what? You're never going to believe this was on the government's watch list of potential extremists. Yes, shocking. And that they were treating the assault as a possible terrorist attack. |
| 3:55.0 | And this harkens back everybody remembers a deadly terrorist attacks in Paris last November 2015. That was organized in Belgium. And Belgium was the site of several attacks linked to Islamic extremists starting in 2016. |
| 4:10.0 | But this officer was patrolling a central area of Brussels, capital of Belgium in a vehicle with his partner. |
| 4:22.0 | And so he's in a vehicle. They stop at a red light. And then they're immediately attacked by a man who stabbed both of them. |
| 4:33.0 | The assailant get ready, shouted. |
| 4:39.0 | Of course, the Arabic phrase for God is great, according to one of the officers. And the assailant was then shot by another police patrol. He apparently survived because he will be questioned as soon as this condition allows it. |
| 4:54.0 | One of the officers was identified only as Thomas M, only 29 years old, sadly died in the hospital later on Thursday from knife wounds to his neck. |
| 5:07.0 | The second officer is only 23 years old. He underwent surgery after having been stabbed in the arm, but his life is no longer in danger. |
| 5:17.0 | Now, this attack came as Belgium is readying itself for the trial over those 2016 terrorist attacks in Brussels. That killed 32 people and left hundreds, hundreds injured. |
| 5:30.0 | And that trial is set to open later this month, they're calling this trial the biggest trial in the country's history. |
| 5:36.0 | The street where the knife attack took place on Thursday is less than a mile from that mull and beak neighborhood, which was home to the terrorist cell that planned the 2016 attacks in Brussels and the 2015 attacks in Paris. |
| 5:51.0 | The suspect was identified by the Belgian police as Yasin M, apparently they do that stupid thing like Germany does where they won't put the last name of the suspect. |
| 6:02.0 | Yasin is a 32-year-old Belgian citizen born in Brussels, so you got a nice homegrown one there. |
| 6:11.0 | And police went on to say that the suspect had served six years in prison for crimes other than terrorism and had been released in 2019. |
| 6:22.0 | And that he had been monitored by the security services and was on the government's watch list of potential extremists. |
