We are not a democracy. I know that Ms. Evans, your junior year civics teacher told you that.

I know that we have a love affair with this idea that we take democracy to the rest of the world, that democracy is good, that democracy is

battling communism, that we believe in democracy because we're not heathens. And it is,

it is ingrained into Americans that we have a democracy and we want everyone to have democracy because democracy is wonderful.

Leaving aside for a moment that Iran did not have democracy when Shah Pahlavi was governing a very stable, relatively secular nation, and democracy led to the Muslim revolution, Islamist revolution, that made that the most dangerous country in the world today.

That was actually democracy, disturbingly.

So, Egypt was a stable country, and the leader was deposed, overthrown, and pushed out for the politically popular Muslim Brotherhood,

and we knew it would happen.

We have seen democracy as such destroy certain countries,

particularly fanatical Muslim countries, and the concept of democracy

per se needs to be understood clearly. Now, that's not a popular thing to say, right? Hitler bad,

Lincoln, good. We like to have very simple things that we can hold on to because it simplifies things. And then we can go to the ballgame and not have to worry about all this heavy stuff.
