This is the 10-minute Bible Hour podcast, and let's just say that you were going to go on a big vacation, a real long one the kind where you got to have a house sitter to keep track of stuff and make sure things don't freeze up and make sure your pets are okay and everything so you're thinking ah how do i get a house sitter well you can't put that on facebook you're going to get an idiot you got to find somebody with you know you can it from real people, right? So you're like, all right, who knows a lot of people? Ah, Craig. Craig knows a lot of people. I'm asked Craig. So you call up your buddy Craig and you're like, Craig, I need a house sitter. So my house doesn't freeze up. My dogs are okay and everything. Craig's like, yeah. All right.

Well, you can't put that on Facebook.

And you're like, right?

So that's why I'm calling you. What do you got for me, Craig? And Craig is like, well, all right, I know the person. It's, it's Michelle. It gives you Michelle's full name and everything. I didn't think of what her last name would be in this scenario.

And he's like, it's Michelle.

Michelle is honest.

She never steals nothing. And she's real good at keeping things from freezing. She's the dog lady. You know, Michelle, she's, that's, that's your gal. She'd be great. Okay, well, what's the next logical question that you're going to ask Craig in this hypothetical situation. This is easy,

right? It's going to be, well, how do you know, Michelle? And if Craig's like, well, she is actually my cousin, and I've known her my whole life, and we've been on trips together and family events,

and I know her from work settings, and like, you know, if he knows her really well,

then you're like, okay, I've heard what I need to hear. I'm calling this Michelle lady. I think

we're off and running. But if Craig is like, oh, how do I know her? Uh, yeah, she's like a friend of a

friend. I think I saw her once at an event, but she was sitting like way down at the other end of

things. I've heard she's really honest and likes dogs and keeps houses from freezing really well.

Well, then you're like, Craig, you're an idiot. And this actually just hurt our relationship and your

reputation because that's a terrible vouch. You have to know the person you're vouching for.

What the heck? Likewise, the apostle Paul

is vouching for a slave owner in the book of Philemon. That's a pretty big vouch, right? I've

never vouched for any slave owners that I've personally known in my life ever. You've got to be

pretty sure that's a decent guy in order to put your name next to

that. But that's exactly what Paul does. And he puts his name next to Phileman's name in writing
