What's up everyone? Welcome back to the Epic Gardening Podcast. Today is our final

episode for now at least and I think it would be really cool Melissa to have you on

sometime in the future as well and kind of follow along maybe with your

2020 plan but we have Melissa on it and it's our final episode it's all about

planning out your companion planting strategies.

So yesterday we talked about making up your actual game plan for the garden this

coming year in general in the wider scheme, but now we're looking into a more detailed topic of, okay, I know what I'm

planting and I know roughly when all that stuff is going in, the varieties I like, but

do I need to know something about how to combine these plantings for the most benefit

either for the crops themselves or my garden or whatever the case may be. So Melissa

I'm actually really curious some of your strategies for how you sort of fit all of your

crops into the garden and which ones you combine with which.

Yeah, so companion planting is one of my favorite things to talk about and I think the reason for that is because for a long time I wanted to do

companion planting but I found it very overwhelming and I really wasn't sure like

what are the rules and how do I know how to do this it just seemed really complicated and so I

didn't do it for a very long time and so I love being able to talk about it now

because I have a feeling if I found something overwhelming most likely other people are too but it's so beneficial and once you have that basic understanding especially for like a backyard garden which is what most of us are doing Most of us aren't doing this as a big

agriculture where we've got you know mono crops and huge acres of fields and everything and

is breaking it down in a way that's easy to do, which is how I like to do everything in the garden, is easy.

So for companion planting, I have kind of two ways that I look at it and how I decide what I'm doing for the year.

And the first is I like to look at the flowers and or the herbs that I want to be eating and or using medicinally. So for me I know that

we love garlic-dill pickles. Dill is one of my favorite herbs to eat. We use a ton of
