Spring of 2009 was a strange time on Pitcairn.

By then, the island had undergone some of its toughest trials, both literally and figuratively.

Over half of the adult male population had been accused,

trialed, convicted, and jailed for various degrees of sexual assault.

By 2009, Pitcairn Island had no prisoners in its jail, its convicts were serving

home detention, and its residents were very much ready to move on from the incident.

To the islanders, life was to go on as usual and the residents who had been

convicted particularly those in the Christian family were still held in high

regard and considered essentially the closest thing the island had to royalty

even though Steve Christian was no longer mayor.

That title was held by Mike Warren who had been elected in 2008.

Warren may have been one of the few men who missed the assault trials of 2004, but it wouldn't take long for him to find

his own troubles.

In early December 2010, Mayor Warren was charged with possession of child pornography.

According to authorities, Warren had, in his possession, accumulated over 1,000 images and

videos of child abuse since 2004.

Warren at the time was working in child protection and traveling all around the world

specifically to attend seminars where he learned about child protection. He claimed

that he had downloaded those files to gain a better understanding of what

constituted child abuse during the time of the sexual assault trials on Petcare and Island in 2004.

However, that didn't explain the additional charge against Warren who had been caught sending sexually graphic messages to someone he understood

to be a 15-year-old girl.
