Summary

Host Jacqueline Coley talks to Phyllis Logan about how her character Mrs. Hughes is the bridge between the upstairs and the downstairs, her real-life inspirations for the beloved housekeeper, and the seemingly innocuous relationship with Mr. Carson. And we talk again with Anita, who hosts upcoming episodes that look behind the scenes at the new film Downton Abbey: A New Era, only in theaters this Spring.

she imitated what she thought a zebra sounds like, very unlike Mrs. Hughes, I think we can safely say, but Phyllis honestly seemed up for anything.

1:32.3

I started by asking her whether she had ever imagined Doughton could be such a hit back when she was cast.

1:39.3

Well, I wish I could say yes, I completely predicted it, but of course not. None of us in a month of Sundays could have foreseen what was around the corner.

1:53.7

Even when I first got the scripts, there were terrific scripts, we just got three to start with.

And at that point, I think Maggie Smith was already on board.

And also it had been written by Lord Fellows, Julian Fellows,

who was already by that time an Oscar winner for his screenplay of Gossford Park.

So really, it was ticking boxes, but of course we couldn't have possibly foreseen that it would

2:27.4

become so dear to the hearts of many, many Americans. That's when it went crazy bonkers. And we were all

2:37.5

getting treated like we were the Beatles on tour. What was that moment when you realize,

2:45.1

okay, this is bigger than I thought. What was that? Was it when people started talking to you
