Hi, welcome to the politics guys. I'm Michael Baranowski, a political scientist at Northern

Kentucky University. My co-host this week, as always, is Cleveland area attorney and

sometime Republican strategist Jay Carson. On Tuesday, Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan,

a member of the House in his ninth term and the 2012 Republican vice presidential nominee as well,

announced that he would run for Speaker of the House if he had the backing of various factions in his party.

And then the following day, a supermajority of the ultra-conservative 40-year-so member House Freedom Caucus

voted to endorse Ryan's candidacy.

Now, that was less than the four-fifths vote required for the caucus's formal endorsement,

but it was enough to satisfy Paul Ryan.

And now the vote, the actual vote itself, which the entire House Republicans and Democrats will participate in,

will be held this upcoming week,

and it should be really little more than a formality at this point.

So it looks like the House is finally going to have a new speaker.

And as I predicted right on schedule, much less drama than some would have liked to have made it out to be.

You're not suggesting that the media tends to over-dramatize these things, are you?

No, exactly, and especially when it's Republicans in the House and Disarray and so forth.

But no, this is what happens.

You know, there's leadership changes and you make deals and you work it out.

And I think I predicted, whether it was last week or two weeks ago, that, yes, this would get worked out. It would get worked out on time. We'd have a speaker and we would move forward. And I got to tell you, from my perspective, I've been a Paul Ryan fan for quite a while.

I bet you didn't know one of Paul Ryan's first jobs in politics.

He was the – he was the legislative aide for budget chairman, fill it in.
