Summary

DNVR Nugget's Adam Mares sits down 1-on1 with Peyton Watson. He opens up about Denver Nuggets culture and his evolving role in an exclusive 1-on-1—from reworking his jump-shot mechanics and daily training routine (weights, chef, treatment, reps) to the mindset that keeps him confident and ready. He breaks down why the ball’s been in his hands more, how team leadership (dinners, yoga, meditation) fuels winning habits, and what it means to have pride in being a Nugget. Watson also talks about hosting the Elevate Summit for Denver high-school hoopers, giving back while sharpening his own game. If you’re a Nuggets fan, don’t miss this deep dive into development, accountability, and why Peyton believes Denver will show it this year.

It's just something I wanted to put together for some of the high school, A's group boys out here in Denver. I did a camp in L.A. and it was really, really good. It was a great turnout, but it was for smaller kids. I wanted to give, like, some of the high school kids an opportunity to sharpen their skills and get better especially with a lot of them go into the next level of going to college.

What do you remember about? kids, an opportunity to sharpen their skills and get better, especially with a lot of them

0:21.2

going to the next level of going to college.

0:23.6

What do you remember about you doing camps like this?

0:26.8

Did you do one?

0:27.5

Was there a player, an NBA player, that you were participating in something similar that

0:30.7

gave you, that you kind of thought of when you were putting this together?

0:34.1

Yeah, I think my most vivid memory is first going to Michael Jordan's camp when I was a kid, like the flight school.

0:42.4

And I actually got to like some really cool moments with Michael Jordan himself and like talk to him and he was cool.

0:49.3

And it really just made me feel like it was tangible.

0:52.7

Like those humans sometimes feel like they're bigger than the game. But for him to take the time out of his day, out of his week to spend those little moments with me that really went a long way for me. So that's another thing in this, just like you can never take any moment for granted. You got to every time you got an opportunity to hoop, you got to do it because there's a lot of people out here who don't have the opportunity. You're kind of young for Jordan,

1:15.1

though. What was Jordan to you? Jordan, I mean, I think it was the person he was and the stories I

1:21.0

heard and just knowing that he's one of the greatest players ever to walk. Obviously, I was a fan of

1:26.8

other guys growing up, just being a little bit younger. But Jordan, you can never, you know, you can never take for granted the greatness of him. He's got a presence, too. I imagine doing a camp with him. I imagine he brings it. Let me talk about your summer real quick because because I'm curious some Nugget stuff right now.

2:01.5

I know, obviously, just from talking to you, talking to Brantley, I know you were working on your shot. That was one of the things you were going to do when you kind of reworked it. What was some of the things you went into reworking your shot this summer? I think just really going back to the basics, spending a lot of time in the gym doing the same thing over and over again. The repetition always kind of brings me back to a place of confidence, especially after the

2:07.8

season when you know you have your takeaways of things to work on. For me, it was just going back

2:13.4

to the basics and kind of making sure that my mechanics were all together.

2:18.2

So that way, when I was repping it out, that I was doing things the right way and the same way

2:23.4

over and over and over again.

2:25.1

So for me, I think it was just about going back to the fundamentals of the game.
