Summary

The Tennis Podcast is back after a few weeks of holiday, and before we get into the fall-out from Nick Kyrgios and cover the latest from both the Tours, here’s an exclusive interview with the great Pete Sampras. This week, Sampras has been in Knokke, Belgium playing in the Optima Open, one of the tournaments on the ATP Champions Tour. Today he meets Xavier Malisse in the final. Our reporter Stuart Fraser caught up with him to ask if he thinks Roger Federer can win another Grand Slam, whether Rafael Nadal can come again, and the rivalry between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. Plus, can he see Serena Williams wrapping up the calendar Slam in New York?

Pete Sanpress, welcome to Belgium. How much do you do play these days? Is it really only at events

1:09.9

like this? Yeah, pretty much, I probably play six, eight matches a year, doing a couple later in

1:16.3

the year in Mexico and one more in Virginia. So I bet I'll play too much, it's just enough to keep

1:22.7

me sharp and it's nice to travel a little bit and sort of meet up with the guys and I still enjoy

1:28.9

playing, it's gets more frustrating as you get older because I'm not quite as good, but I still

1:32.8

enjoy it and it's not something I'm going to do forever, I just feel like the next couple of years

1:37.2

I might slow down and just sort of take it easy, it's just tougher on my body and it gets a little

1:42.9

frustrating out there when I'm not as sharp and I miss a little bit too much but oh no, it's been a

1:48.0

good thing for me. I'm about watching tennis, we don't necessarily see events all the time

1:52.8

watching, are you watching it home in the television? Yeah, I do watch quite a bit especially during

1:56.8

the majors, second week of Wimbledon or the Open, I watch, see what Roger is doing and no

2:03.0

bad, I can see that match up, I don't see it week in week out, I don't see the early rounds,
