Summary

Tennessee Volunteers close the season with disappointment but eyeing opportunities for growth. After suffering a blowout loss to Vanderbilt, questions swirl around defensive struggles, coordinator futures, and the trajectory under Josh Heupel’s leadership. Should the Vols shake up their coaching staff or overhaul defensive personnel, and is Heupel ready for a CEO-style role seen in other elite programs? Eric Cain and Caleb Jarreau break down Tennessee’s 8-4 finish, spotlighting Joey Aguilar’s impact at quarterback, missed chances against Georgia and Oklahoma, and the program’s offensive evolution. Mailbag questions tackle the lack of signature wins, home-field setbacks, transfer portal needs, and strategic moves required for a step forward. With National Signing Day looming, this episode challenges fans to rethink expectations and consider what’s needed for the Vols to return to SEC prominence.

2:11.8

You remove all that, and this year's kind of what many thought it was going to be, right?

2:16.4

Not in 3, 8, and 4. Your immediate reflections on the Tennessee football season, Josh Hoppill's fifth year. Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head with this is what we expected. You know, nine and three would be your prediction if you had an upset somewhere mixed in. But I feel like eight and four was the floor for this team. The schedule was really easy, and they finished 8 and 4. I think where you get the fan discourse is nobody wants to get blown out by Vanderbilt, especially Tennessee, and also the close losses early in the year. You know, Georgia comes to mind where you're going to overtime. I feel like those set unreal expectations on this football team.
