About the Speaker:

Fr. Dominic Legge, O.P., is the Director of the Thomistic Institute and an Assistant Professor in systematic theology at the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. He holds a J.D. from Yale Law School, a Ph.L. from the School of Philosophy of the Catholic University of America, and a doctorate in Sacred Theology from the University of Fribourg. He entered the Order of Preachers in 2001 and was ordained a priest in 2007. He practiced law for several years as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice before becoming a Dominican.

It's common today to meet university students walking around on campus.

I meet many of them as the director of the Thomistic Institute.

University students who are searching to discover their identity.

In fact, that's something that our contemporary culture, above all the contemporary university,

places a great emphasis on.

What is your identity?

What is your ethnic identity, your gender identity, your sexual orientation, your political

identity, your online identity, your identity with your friends,

your identity when you're with your family, and so on.

But this stress on identity often leaves students feeling anxious and stressed and lost because often enough they're not quite sure what their identity is.

And they're not quite sure how they're supposed to find it.

And often enough, in the contemporary university, the identities that they do try out or try on don't

provide the deep answers they're looking for. In fact, I think underlying a lot of this is often a fear

that one might have that perhaps I'm not really that valuable. And so I need to find my value
