Summary

Tonight on The ReidOut, Joy Reid and her guests take a closer look at the person of interest being held for questioning in central Pennsylvania, 280 miles from New York City, as new details emerge about his background, ideology, and potential motive in connection to the murder of a health insurance company CEO. Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s immigration rhetoric escalates as he pushes for an end to birthright citizenship, a right explicitly protected by the Constitution. Plus, we discuss the seismic shift in the Middle East as the Assad regime in Syria collapses after half a century, delivering a massive blow to Iran and Russia. We explore what this game-changing development means for the U.S. and the world.

Joining me now is Frank Fagluse, former FBI official and MSNBC Senior National Security Analyst.

Frank, thanks so much for earlier yourself up, but just a little bit to come and chat with us.

What did you make of what you just heard specifically, and particularly Governor Josh Shapiro,

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, having some things to say about the lionization of this shooter,

0:23.0

which we have seen both online and off.

0:27.9

Yeah, I've seen it myself.

murder. And I think one of the things that began to concern me, Joy, as this went

0:55.6

on and on, was the possibility that we could have a kind of hero fugitive, where people would

1:01.2

not be helping to capture him. So this ended well with a citizen doing the right thing. And it was,

1:09.5

you know, as high tech as we've become in law enforcement

1:12.2

and we're on camera all the time and high-tech facial recognition and all of that,

1:18.7

it came down to releasing the photos that we had, right, even though they were masked,

1:24.6

and then letting the public do their job. It's the crowdsourcing of crime solving.

1:29.6

And as sophisticated as we may get, I'm all about believing in releasing what you have and

1:36.3

letting citizens get the work done for you in support of what you're doing.

1:42.4

And I think that process, and this is something that I think you probably thought about,

1:46.6

that we've talked about behind the scenes just among producers,

1:49.7

is whether or not that sort of lionization of him and really people's genuine anger.
