0:21.6	after escaping custody in North Carolina.
0:23.6	So meet Ramon Alston, who in 2018 was convicted for the 2015 murder of one-year-old
0:28.8	Malia Williams.
0:29.8	And this little one-year-old was just playing outside her family's apartment on Christmas day when someone
0:33.3	opened fire from a car driving past, with Malia getting hit, then taken to the hospital where she
0:37.8	ended up dying three days later.
0:39.4	For this, Alston was sentenced to life in prison at the Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor, North Carolina,
0:44.2	and that is where he has been since until this week.
0:46.3	Because on Tuesday, Alston was being transported to the UNC Gas Wagerology Hospital in Hillsborough for a follow-up medical appointment.
0:54.2	According to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, the prison transport van rolled up to the hospital around 7 in the morning.
0:57.1	When the officers opened the door, Alston just jumped from the van
0:59.6	and ran under the nearby woods.
