0:00.0	Y'all, it's been a minute since I've been in a classroom, but are teachers okay right now?
0:04.4	Sooka, soca, soca, soca, soca, suca, suca, suca, soca, soca. Right, so that footage was posted on Instagram by a Native American activist and businesswoman.
0:21.9	We said in the caption that a Native American student took the video during his math class at John W. North High School in Riverside, California.
0:27.5	Saying after several minutes of the teacher war hooping and tomahawk chopping, the student began filming.
0:31.8	They're going on to urge people to share the video saying the boy gave her permission to post it.
0:35.4	And adding, we need to end abuse and discrimination against indigenous youth in schools. There is no excuse for this type of behavior.
0:40.8	We're not in the 1960s anymore. She should know better. And so like a lot of people, I saw
0:44.5	this video and I was very confused, especially because in the caption it said it happened in a math class.
0:48.9	Like I thought this was maybe a history lesson that got really off the rails. And it appears that the teacher's now been identified as Candace Reed was using an
0:55.5	mnemonic device.
0:56.5	That device being Sokotoa, which is supposed to help people remember sign, cosine, and tangent.
1:00.0	If you go to Dummies.com, it explains, and they're sharing the story of then he has to soak it in the water, so soak a toa.
1:14.6	But main thing, this video goes viral, it prompts a ton of backlash, many condemning the clip, calling it racist and offensive.
1:20.6	But some saying they were also taught this mnemonic device by teachers who made similar offensive comparisons to Native Americans.
1:25.6	But on the other side of this, we also saw people arguing
1:27.6	that the teacher didn't mean to be offensive,
1:29.2	she just didn't know better, right?
1:30.6	Saying, hey, let's try and turn this into a learning opportunity.
1:33.1	Though, to that point, we saw people pushing back on that,
1:35.4	responding by pointing out that that's the problem.
1:37.3	Saying the ignorance and naivete is the hate.
1:39.3	She's putting the Native American kids in jeopardy, let alone embarrassing and degrading them. And so with that, I would love to know your thoughts on this story and what camp do you land?
