to do is reflect upon two things. First of all, what we have discovered about Sir David Amos since he was

killed on Friday in the most grim and brutal of circumstances. And I suspect like me,

you didn't know a great deal about him before that atrocity unfolded. And now, like me, you know

rather more. And what has struck me is that it was, I mean, you can't say no one had a bad word to say about him, because in these circumstances and at this time, you'd have to be a psychopath to have a bad word to say about somebody whose family was grieving in the worst of circumstances. But lots and lots of people had very nice and warm things to say about him.

And what seemed to shine through many of the tributes and many of the retrospectives was a

commitment to constituency work, which is something that we never really talk about in this country.

You'll have heard me a few times respond to callers of all political persuasions,

claiming that they're all as bad as each other,

by pointing out that they're clearly not.

One of the problems I have with the conversation at the moment

about not being as robust in our criticisms of some politicians as those politicians would like,

is that some of them really deserve it.

Like any body of humanity that numbers 650 people, some of them are going to be wonderful human beings,
